One of them is the acknowledgement system, where the receiver sends an acknowledgment message back to the sender to confirm that the data has been received successfully. If the sender doesn’t receive an acknowledgment within a certain timeframe, it assumes that the segment has been lost and retransmits the data.

Another critical aspect of TCP is flow control. This mechanism prevents the sender from overwhelming the receiver by regulating the transmission rate. The receiver sends back a window size value, indicating the amount of data it can receive at a given time. The sender adjusts its transmission rate based on this value to avoid congestion and ensure smooth data flow.

While TCP handles the transport of data, other protocols work together to facilitate internet communication. At the application layer, protocols like HTTP, FTP, and SMTP utilize TCP to send data between web browsers, servers, and other network devices.

Once data reaches the destination device, TCP reassembles the segments and hands them off to the receiving application. This ensures that the information is delivered intact and in the correct order.
