What is Java ME?
Java ME, also known as Java Micro Edition or J2ME, is a specialized version of the Java programming language specifically designed for mobile devices and embedded systems. It provides a platform for developing applications that can run on a wide range of devices, such as feature phones, smartphones, tablets, and other embedded systems.
Java ME allows developers to create applications using a subset of the Java Standard Edition (Java SE) API. This subset includes a compact set of libraries and frameworks optimized for resource-constrained devices with limited processing power, memory, and battery life. It also incorporates specific features for mobile app development, such as support for mobile user interfaces, networking, and local data storage.

2. Profile: Within each configuration, Java ME defines profiles that provide additional features and libraries for specific device categories or target industries. Profiles build on top of configurations and help developers to target devices with similar capabilities. Some of the popular profiles include MIDP (Mobile Information Device Profile) for mobile devices and Automotive profiles for cars.
3. MIDlets: Java ME applications are often referred to as MIDlets, which are essentially Java programs developed specifically for mobile devices. A MIDlet typically consists of at least one Java class that extends the MIDlet base class and overrides methods to handle application lifecycle events.
4. User Interfaces: Java ME provides several UI libraries and frameworks for building mobile user interfaces, such as high-level GUI libraries like Java ME Advanced Programming Interface (API) and low-level UI libraries like Java ME Lightweight User Interface Toolkit (LWUIT). These libraries simplify the process of creating attractive and interactive user interfaces for mobile applications.
5. Network Communication: Java ME includes APIs for network communication, enabling applications to interact with web services, retrieve data from remote servers, and send data over various network protocols. These APIs make it possible to develop applications that can leverage internet connectivity to provide real-time data updates, social media integration, and other network-based functionalities.
6. Data Storage: Java ME provides mechanisms for local data storage, allowing applications to save data on the device’s file system or using a lightweight database system called the Java ME database (Java DB). This enables offline capabilities, data caching, and other forms of data persistence in mobile applications.
