The recursive query is called “recursive” because it asks the DNS server to do the necessary steps to find the IP address on behalf of your computer.
3. DNS Root Query: The recursive DNS server starts the name resolution process by sending a query to one of the root DNS servers. These root DNS servers store information about the top-level domains, such as .com, .net, and .org.
4. Top-Level Domain (TLD) Query: Based on the information received from the root DNS server, the recursive server then sends a query to the appropriate TLD server. For example, if the domain name is www.example.com, the recursive server will query the .com TLD server.
5. Authoritative DNS Query: The TLD server responds with the IP address of the authoritative DNS server responsible for the specific domain. The recursive server then sends a query to the authoritative server.
6. Final Response: The authoritative DNS server responds with the IP address of the requested domain, which is then returned to your computer and stored in its local DNS cache for future use.

Name resolution plays a crucial role in enabling the seamless functioning of the internet. Without the ability to translate domain names into IP addresses, we would have to remember and manually enter numeric IP addresses for every website we want to access.
